The Future of Byron Hotsprings
2 Comments Published by Brian W. Barringer on Monday, May 01, 2006 at 4:12 PM.From what I have found so far it seems that the future is not bright. Right now its a cow pasture, there are hundreds of cows where people used to be.
Golf Course and Resort Plan?
One group has plans to make the place into a resort again with an 18-hole championship golf course, golf club, spa, convention facility, retail, bungalow style hotel facility, residential homes and even light industry. They even bought the domain name, (www.byronhotsprings.com). The idea seems to be at a stand still. I cant find any information about the project in the news or other searches. The website has not been updated since 2004 and hard to find(I found it by typing byronhotsprings all at once in the search engine). The website is loaded with detailed information on the history of the hotsprings. Someone put some money into the research and design of this website. Was this idea shot down? Did the investors pull out or dose the property just have bad luck for everyone who owns it? If anyone has any info on this that they could send me I would appreciate I did email the General Manager/PGA Project Coordinator and have not gotten a response.
A few Ideas to throw around. What do you think?
Idea 2# A New Home Development similar to mountain House:Home subdivisions centralized around a nice sized public park and community center. Which would consist of a few indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The hotel would be turned into a public historical preserve which all would be funded by developers in exchange for building rights. Any developers want to play?
Idea 3# A corporate headquarters: The hotel rooms are a little small by today's hotel standards but they are the perfect size for small private offices. There is a grand lobby, a kitchen plenty of storage space and a airport next door. It would be perfect for corporate retreats if you opened up the pools and there is plenty of space to put more offices. Close to dublin and private.
Idea 4# Northern California renaissance faire location: The renaissance faire has been looking for a location for years since they left Blackpoint, this would be a perfect place with a very nice setting.
Idea 5# Indian Casino with historic theme: That will get the people out there plus keep the dollars flowing. This kind of development should warrent hugh improvements and at the minimum restoring the hotel, plus the hot springs are next to the Byron airport..

I think that this place should be turned into a public park. There are plenty or roaming hills great for hwalking and biking. I don't like idea numbers 2 through 5, especially 5. Sure money is always good but the idea of this beautiful peice of history turned into a theme park where the people are going to come to the hotel for money and not for the hotel as it is now, sure saddens me. America doesn't have many ruins like this. I appreciate a burned out building it has history, it's a brick poem. A powerful lone standing building, hidden from the view of the public, in a grassy field. It's beautiful. I think that at most, it can restored enough to be safe but left untouched enoughed to be appreciated. Nice long beautiful quiet paths that give you a view of the beautiful quiet property.
i highly agree with the above comment, it is priceless, hystorical, and flat out beautiful.
